Ancient Scales #3 — A Snake Skin Agate Pendant Necklace in Oxidized Reticulated Silver and 14kt Gold

Scales. As if coming from some snake-like pattern. Although, in reality, these patterns are made by ancient fossilized fish. Known as Snakeskin Agate.

Snakes are seen as Guardians in some Cultures, and these stones reminiscent of that because of their scaley patterned appearance.

Wrapped in Fine Silver and backed on Textured Reticulated Silver. With Sterling and 14kt Gold Accents. This piece was then oxidized.

This pendant and chain has been oxidized using a time consuming non-toxic method, one that offers not a uniform, but varying degrees of dark and smoky hues. I strive to create my oxidized pieces to come as close as possible to looking as if they were truly oxidized over a long period of time.

Measurements:

Pendant Height including Bail — 1.6 inches

Pendant Width — 1.3 inches

Chain Length — 16 inches. Oxidized Sterling Silver Paperclip Style chain. Fastens with a modern lobster clasp. Because of the oversized bail on the pendant, this chain can be removed and switched out for one of your own should you choose.

As a reminder please do not submerge this pendant in liquid, as it will effect the oxidation.

This is handmade and one of a kind. I have created this in an eco-friendly manner — from hand with no harsh jewelers chemicals and no power tools. 

The old fashioned way, using recycled silver.

Thus, it has taken me a considerable amount of time compared to using other modern jewelry techniques. Therefore, file marks, as well as asymmetries are all part of the hand-fashioned process.
